Beyond the Introduction to Academic Advising curriculum, additional training workshops and themed training series' are scheduled throughout the year based on training needs and interests.These are announced through the ATA listserve and can also be found on the ATA calendar.
All training and services provided by the Advisor Training Academy are informed by the following overall goals:
- To offer a high quality "Introduction to Academic Advising" training program that complements the department or school/college specific training for all advisors at Wayne State University
- To offer additional training on timely and relevant advising topics including WSU-specific training topics as well as new and advanced advising theories, practices, and techniques within the field
- To offer opportunities for growth in the professional and personal competencies essential to high quality academic advising
- To maintain a consistent means of communication for updating relevant advising information
- To offer opportunities for WSU advisors to network, mentor, connect with, and learn from other advisors at WSU
- To offer a means of advisor recognition through professional presentations, mentoring, and WSU Advisor Certification
All trainings offered through the ATA are developed with specific learning outcomes in mind as well as NACADA's Academic Advising Core Competencies.Training recordings, handouts, and materials are stored for advisor reference in the Advisor Training Academy Canvas course.
