The WSU Advisor Training Academy (ATA) was launched in fall of 2014. It grew out a campus-wide initiative from the Office of the Provost to improve undergraduate advising services at Wayne State University. The University's commitment to advising was seen as a critical step toward improving student support, persistence and graduation and included the hiring of 45 new advisors, an investment in advising technology, and a commitment to providing consistent, and timely training for advisors.
In addition to its training programs, the ATA seeks to provide a source of accurate and timely communication to advisors through its listserve, newsletter, advisor directory and Canvas site. Finally, the ATA supports advisor professional development and recognition through its certification program, Advising Awards, Mini Grants, and Thank and Advisor initiative.
Wayne State University believes that advising is an indispensable part of student success and that an investment in advisors is an investment in students.
