New Advisor Curriculum/Level 1 Certification

Revamp the ATA level 1 Certification as a New Advisor Onboarding course. This team created a campus-wide New Advisor Onboarding course in Canvas that provides high-quality, consistent advisor training aligned to the NACADA Core Competencies. The onboarding includes in-person and asynchronous training modules, shadowing opportunities, regular check-in sessions with an ATA trainer, and subsequent follow-up modules set at the three, six, and nine-month mark. The onboarding concludes at the one-year mark with ATA Level 1 certification.

Advisor Level 2 Certification

Review and revise ATA Level 2 certification including prerequisites, requirements for completion and maintenance, and recognition. Fellows worked to complete a Level 2 Canvas module that includes steps to complete a Personal Philosophy of Advising, and a DEI training and reflection assignment. The team also revamped the guidelines for renewing certification along with a form for submitting renewal updates by advisors.

DEI Project

Create ATA DEI Project that would align with University DEI task force and would inform training and resources for WSU advisors and impact advising outcomes. This team launched a DEI in Advising initiative that included a three-part asynchronous DEI course in Canvas, synchronous drop-in hours during the course to support learning, and concluded with a full-day DEI in Advising session facilitated by NACADA experts and WSU DEI leadership.

Advising Fellowship Program

Stacie Moser, Department of Sociology

Create, launch, and implement the ATA advising fellows program. This project included assisting ATA leadership with scheduling, written materials, website and presentation content, and professional development activities. The Fellow consulted with Fellows on their project milestones, programming requirements, and assessed professional development interests for meetings.
