Ronnie Alvarez recently joined the Department of Public Health as an Academic Services Officer. Here are some interesting facts about Ronnie.
KB: Tell us a little bit about your educational background and how it relates to your current position.
RA: During my time at the University of Michigan and UC Berkeley, I conducted research in both the physical sciences and public health, looking at the health impact of immigration enforcement. The faculty I encountered in these spaces inspired me to pursue research and one day become a faculty member myself. Working as an Academic Services Officer allows me to understand the structure of a research-institution from the student, advising, and faculty perspective.
KB: Can you please tell us a little bit about your student affairs background before joining WSU?
RA: This is my first student affairs position, but my recent experiences as a student in two research-institutions with similar public health curricula fostered familiarity with the higher-level functions of my role.
KB: When you are not advising, what are some things you like to do for fun?
RA: I play any and all sports and enjoy playing Mexican norteño music as well.
KB: Any interesting or fun facts about yourself that you would like to share?
RA: I was born and raised in Southwest Detroit!
