The WSU College of Biological Sciences recently welcomed its newest advisor, Mary Kuligowski, to their team. Learn more about Mary below!
ATA: Tell us a little bit about your educational background and how it relates to your current position.
Mary: I got my Bachelor of Science in Earth Sciences and a Math minor at Northern Michigan University in May 2023! My background will help me in assisting students with study skills tailored to a science curriculum and how best to understand and learn the subjects.
ATA: Can you please tell us a little bit about your student affairs background before joining WSU?
Mary: While I was at Northern, I worked on our Retention Committee as the student representative to help encourage programs to increase retention and student engagement. I was also active in my sorority on campus and helped bring up programs to promote a positive and encouraging Greek life community. After graduating from Northern, I worked at the University of Michigan Undergraduate Admissions office as an Admissions intern for a year. While there I got to recruit and interact with students from all backgrounds, read applications, and work on our programs for students to come and be a part of.
ATA: When you are not advising, what are some things you like to do for fun?
Mary: I enjoy doing anything over by the water like swimming and kayaking. I also enjoy hiking, cooking, and reading. Feel free to send any book recommendations my way!
ATA: Any interesting or fun facts about yourself that you would like to share?
Mary: If you ever want to talk about the UP, weather, rocks, or the northern lights, feel free to chat with me! After living in the UP for college I know a lot of different places to check out up there and the fun spots to see the northern lights!
