The WSU Department of Transfer Student Success recently welcomed its newest advisor,Lindsay Taipala, to their team. Learn more about Lindsay below!
ATA: Tell us a little bit about your educational background and how it relates to your current position.
Lindsay: I got my Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology at the University of Western Ontario and my Bachelor of Education at the University of Windsor. After graduating I began working as a middle school and high school English teacher and later transitioned to working in higher education. My education and work experience helped me discover my passion for education and my desire to share that with others. As a transfer advisor, I look forward to meeting with prospective students to help them navigate this exciting time in their life as they continue their education.
ATA: Can you please tell us a little bit about your student affairs background before joining WSU?
Lindsay: Before joining Wayne State University, I worked at Madonna University. I began working there as an Admissions Officer and later switched to the Student Affairs team to be the Coordinator for Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction and a TRIO Student Support Services staff member. In these roles, I connected with prospective and current students and shared my passion for education with them. These experiences have helped me understand the ins and outs of higher education and I look forward to learning even more at WSU!
ATA: When you are not advising, what are some things you like to do for fun?
Lindsay: When not working, I enjoy hanging out with friends and family, going to concerts, reading books, playing with any and all animals, hiking, and occasionally running (slowly).
ATA: Any interesting or fun facts about yourself that you would like to share?
Lindsay: I was born and raised in Canada and played hockey for 10 years. Yes, I am ready for the Red Wings to win the Stanley Cup, but if the Maple Leafs win instead, I also wouldn’t be mad.
