Welcome Christina!

The WSU University Advising Center recently welcomed its newest advisor, Christina Patten, to their team. Learn more about Christina below!

ATA: Tell us a little bit about your educational background and how it relates to your current position.

Christina: I recently completed my studies at the University of Michigan, earning a BA in Anthropology with a sub-focus in Medical Anthropology. I found a passion for education justice, student advocacy, and support.

ATA: Can you please tell us a little bit about your student affairs background before joining WSU?

Christina: I worked as an Academic Success Partner (ASP) or peer mentor for the SuccessConnects program at the Office of Academic and Multicultural Initiatives. I primarily supported diverse second-year students. As an ASP, I met bi-weekly with my mentees to discuss their academic, personal, and social goals for the semester and academic year. Once goals were set, we shifted our primary focus to anything they needed holistically, such as practicing time management, organization, and balancing skills. I also had the pleasure of working within a program I was a part of called the Comprehensive Studies Program, where I worked as a co-academic Peer Advisor for the 2023 Summer. My co-lead and I would present a 90-minute orientation presentation to transfer and first-year students, helping them connect with their Academic Advisors and fielding any lingering questions.

ATA: What do you like to do for fun when you are not advising?

Christina: One of my favorite activities is spending quality time with my people, whether that is watching reality TV, kayaking, going on walks, or just talking, this is my favorite activity. Outside of this I love a good book, even if there is no plot to be found!

ATA: Any interesting or fun facts about yourself that you would like to share?

Christina: I have two college cats, named Salem and Clementine, whom I adore and love so much.
