Welcome Amber!

The Mike Illitch School of Business recently welcomed its newest academic advisor, Amber James, to their team. Learn more about Amber below!

ATA: Tell us a little bit about your educational background and how it relates to your current position.

Amber: I earned my BAS from Siena Heights University (Adrian, MI) in Graphic & Web Design with a minor in Marketing. I completed my MS at Emporia State University (Emporia, KS) in Art Therapy. My degree in art therapy has equipped me with skills in working with individuals to define goals for personal growth and to overcome challenges in achieving those goals.

ATA: Can you please tell us a little bit about your student affairs background before joining WSU?

Amber: Prior to coming to WSU I worked as an Academic Advisor at Siena Heights University, mainly with undergraduate students transferring into the online degree completion program.

ATA: When you are not advising, what are some things you like to do for fun?

Amber: When I am not working, I hang out with my 2 adult children and my 3 dogs.

ATA: Any interesting or fun facts about yourself that you would like to share?

Amber: I am credentialed as a board-certified art therapist (ATR-BC) and practice outside of my time at WSU. I am currently working with those in addiction recovery and am actively involved in the efforts to enact art therapy licensure in Michigan.
