Micheline Silva is the new academic advisor in the Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies. I had a chance to get to know more about Micheline's background.
KB: Tell us a little bit about your educational background and how it relates to your current position.
MS: I am a first-generation Chicana and college student. I was born and raised in the Metro Detroit Area. I graduated from Lincoln Park High School and completed my undergraduate degree at Wayne State University in 2018. I received a Bachelor of Arts Psychology with a double minor in Latin American Studies and Sociology. I was a student and a peer mentor at the Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies learning community that I am now working as an advisor in. I went into the workforce and quickly realized I needed to further my education to accomplish my career goals. I was then accepted as a Detroit Clinical Scholar at the School of Social Work University of Michigan.
KB: Can you please tell us a little bit about your student affairs background before joining WSU?
MS: I graduated with my Master's in Social Work in December 2021. I then worked as a school-based clinician where I was able to provide clinical therapy for Latine students in the school setting. I take my job extremely personally, and it aligns with my mission in life of working towards an equitable future.
KB: When you are not advising, what are some things you like to do for fun?
MS: Outside of work I enjoy staying physically active. I also love creating artwork in different medias such as painting, writing, and repurposing old materials.
We are so excited to have Micheline join the CLLAS advising team. Please welcome her to WSU!
