The ATA welcomes Bibi Ahmed to the WSU advising community. She has taken on a new position advising the BA in Law students along with some Criminal Justice students as well. Read below to learn more about Bibi, her background and interests.
ATA: Tell us a little bit about your educational background and how it relates to your current position.
BA: I am a WSU alum. Previously, I attended WSU to complete my Secondary Education Certification. I completed my Master's in Educational Psychology (M. Ed.) in Fall 2022 at WSU, too. I believe having a strong understanding about my students' backgrounds and academic goals plays a huge role in counseling and advising them.
ATA: Can you please tell us a little bit about your student affairs background before joining WSU?
BA: Before joining the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, as an Academic Services Officer, I worked as a Financial Aid Officer here at Wayne State University. I started right before the pandemic. I learned a lot of financial aid knowledge, which I know will be helpful when I meet with my students to discuss their academics. Even in my previous role, I counseled and advised students with their financial aid needs. In addition, I worked at outreach events to grow and promote the relationship between students, their families, and Wayne State University.
ATA: When you are not advising, what are some things you like to do for fun?
BA: Some of the things I like to do for fun include going for long walks, swimming lessons, sight-seeing historical places near-by, travel, and shopping
ATA: Any interesting or fun facts about yourself that you would like to share?
BA: When I was in high school, I had a "shrine" to Michael Jackson in my locker; I pretty much know all the "Rocky" movies by heart; In 2021, I went to New York City all by myself. I got to see Times Square, the original Macy's store, the original Saks Fifth Avenue store, Rockefeller center, and the list goes on.
