Meet A'Narris!

The College of Liberal Arts & Science and Department of Public Health welcomes new advisor, A'Narris Monger. A'Narris started with the college on Monday, March 24. Read below to learn more about A'Narris and what brought her to WSU.

ATA: Tell us a little bit about your educational background and how it relates to your current position.

AM: I have a bachelor's degree in InterdisciplinaryStudies in Social Sciences with a Health Studies concentration and an Anthropology Cognate. I have a master's degree in Community Health from Wayne State University. I have a passion for community health and public health. I love working in the community. Prior to this role, I worked in higher education for almost three years and fell in love with helping students achieve their academic and career goals.

ATA: Can you please tell us a little bit about your student affairs background before joining WSU?

AM: Before joining WSU I worked at U of M for three years. There, I focused on providing our MPH and public health undergrad students with hands-on, workforce experience. I helped facilitate student workshops, events, and public health practice experiences between students and community partners. At times, the work felt like advising which is why I was interested in pursuing a role as an advisor. I want to help students navigate the complex issues of life and academics.

ATA: When you are not advising, what are some things you like to do for fun?

AM: When I am not advising, I like spending time with my family. I have two kids and a husband. My son is 11 and my daughter is 3. I also like to travel every once in a while, go to church, and do adventurous things but not too adventurous. I will kayak, hike, and camp but I won't jump out of an airplane.

ATA: Any interesting or fun facts about yourself that you would like to share?

AM: Outside of work, I educate the community about domestic violence. I facilitate workshops around the city of Detroit.
