The College of Engineering welcomed its newest advisor, Kate Edge, at the end of November. She will be advising in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. Read on to learn more about Kate.
ATA: Tell us a little about your educational background and how it relates to your current position.
KE: I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a BS in Public Relations and an MA in Communication Studies. I returned to school later in life for my master's degree in Student Personnel Administration in Higher Education. I feel fortunate that I can use some of the information and skills from all my areas of study while working in higher ed.
ATA: Can you please tell us a little about your student affairs background before joining WSU?
KE: I came to WSU after a short stint in non-profit work, owning my own business and then more recently, having spent 14 years in athletics as a coach and administrator. My time was spent at a smaller institution, so I have experience interacting and collaborating within a variety of student affairs departments. Advising students, to me, seems the most adjacent to coaching and I am excited to specialize and grow in this area.
ATA: When you are not advising, what are some things you like to do for fun?
KE: I would be in the sun, by a pool, listening to crime junkie podcasts every day if life had no limitations. But I have four very busy kids, so I am usually at one of their events.
ATA: Any interesting or fun facts about yourself that you would like to share?
KE: A lifetime ago I did improvisational comedy, I can also spin cotton candy.
