Outstanding New Academic Advisor

Susan Reynolds, Adult Learner Advisor, University Advising Center

"Susie's understands the diverse needs and backgrounds of adult learners and she has tailored her communication strategies to serve them best. Her inclusive approach and comprehensive-care model ensure that all students feel seen, heard, and valued, which is essential in establishing a supportive advising relationship. Students have shared with me that, with Susie's guidance, they've felt empowered to explore their academic interests and set ambitious goals; Susie’s advisees are confident that they have a dedicated advisor invested in their success."
                                                                                                                                                  - Chloe Lundine, Office of the Provost

“Susie Reynolds has been an outstanding academic advisor for my return and transition to WSU. She has been a wealth of knowledge, and any questions I have had she has always had a quick response with the answers that I needed. She has done a wonderful job assisting me in returning to WSU by way of the Phoenix Program and has provided me with encouragement along the way. She is friendly, professional, and I'm not sure there would have been a better person to help me.”
                                                                                                                                               - Brandon Wade, WSU Student

Outstanding Academic Advising Team

Irvin D. Reid Honors College Advising Team:

Aundra Freeman
Rachel Pawlowski
Angel Niederkohr

"In addition to being very, very good at all aspects of the advisor role, our team makes the whole college better by being an absolute delight to work with. In every one of their many roles they have offered important insights, given time and energy above and beyond the call of duty, and done so with good cheer, and a cooperative spirit that has made even the most difficult task seem easy. Their intelligence, thoughtfulness, enthusiasm, and kindness help make everything else function more smoothly. Our college works better and more happily because we get to work with our advisors."
                                                                                                                                   - Dr. Kevin Deegan-Krause, Dept. of Political Science

"Throughout my experience with interacting with this advising team, they have made it clear that their main goal is to make students feel comfortable and confident in their choices. I strongly believe that the Honors Advising Team is an exceptional team deserving of acknowledgement and praise. Each member embodies what it means to be a Warrior."

 - Ezra Mitchell, WSU Student

Advising Spirit Award

Maya Calloway Richardson, College of Fine, Performing & Communication Arts

"Having a 'person' on campus who is invested in you and your success is one of the key drivers in helping students connect to the campus. It nurtures the ever-important sense of belonging and can increase a student’s desire to grow their network both in and out of the classroom. I choose to mentor because I believe this premise applies to the entire university community. The sense of belonging that we tout as being one of the primary contributors to student success also applies to us."
                                                                                                                                                         - Maya Caloway Richardson, CFPCA

"I aspire to match Maya’s knowledge and involvement with University policies and efforts.... Despite her busy schedule, Maya always finds the time to answer my plethora of questions. In the rare case that she doesn’t know the answer to my question, she is remarkably quick to find a solution. Her experience and dedication have made her a clear leader in our Academic Services team in the College of Fine, Performing, & Communication Arts."
                                                                                                                                                          - Dan Hanrath, Dept. of Music

Transfer Advising Champion

Angel Niederkohr, Irvin D. Reid Honors College

"If Angel read this letter, she would no doubted say, 'I did none of this by myself but with the whole team.'  And while many of us have helped Angel with her projects, they are indeed her projects. They are championed by her and managed by her. She has sought out a population of the Honors College and now shepherds those students through their Honors curriculum. Without Angel Niederkohr, the transfer-student recruitment would not exist in the amazing capacity that it currently does."
                                                                                                                                                       - Rachel Pawlowski, Honors College

"Since the first day I met Angel, I instantly knew that the honors college is where I needed to be.  As I recollect that day, I remember our discussion ranging from T-shirts to Japan, which was a soothing conversation to have for an extremely nervous transfer student. At the moment, Angel made me feel extremely cared for and like a person that mattered, and I can’t overstate how much that meant to me at the time. Angel's commitment and dedication have been unrelenting thus far, and that has assuredly not gone unnoticed."
                                                                                                                                                         - Dontae Love, WSU Student
