Wayne State University

ABC (Advisor Book Club)

In recognition of the growing body of scholarly literature within the field of academic advising, as well as the emphasis on continuing and self-directed professional development, the ATA seeks to encourage scholarly engagement, the discussion of research, and the enjoyment of reading through its Advisor Book Club.

Each term, the ATA selects a common reading for discussion at a future Lunch and Learn session. Past selections have included popular non-fiction books related to positive psychology and applicable to student development theory as well as advisor satisfaction and job performance.  Other selections have been chosen from NACADA journal articles.

The Winter 2018 book selection (PDF) is "Reclaiming Conversation: The Power of Talk in a Digital Age" by Sherry Turkle. A copy of the book can be reserved by emailing Kate Bernas, ab9599@wayne.edu. The ABC discussion of this selection will take place at the April 20, 2018 Lunch and Learn, Noon to 1:30 p.m. in the UAC Lab, 1600 Undergraduate Library.  No RSVP required.
